I hope that the title of this article has grabbed your attention. Of course you can’t not upgrade your Sitecore!

In fact, it is imperative that you do upgrade as quickly as possible. Read on to find out why.

No matter where you are, you shouldn’t wait a second longer.Sounds like a weak slogan for someone lacking in brain smarts, right? You know what though? Sometimes taking simple steps that sound utterly obvious are the best place to start.

In terms of upgrading Sitecore, there is no doubt in my mind that Coders Center can support you in taking those simple steps on the way to making your website a more secure and modern solution.

I’ve outlined some common situations below. Can you spot your business in any of them?

I have Sitecore 6.5 or older

If you have Sitecore version 6.5 or earlier, you have a system that is over 5 years old. One year in the ‘real’ world equals many more in the realm of IT and canines!Sitecore 6.5 was initially released in 2011. Since then, many things have changed in the world of technology.

You may have:

• DMS instead of xDB. Very few websites were using DMS in 2011

• most, if not all, of your components written in Web Forms, as opposed to MVC

• an aged system environment that is difficult to maintain

You may not have:

• developers who want to work with your outdated website

• modern marketing tools

• security updatesIf the above looks familiar, it means you have a problem and need to move swiftly to resolve it.

Staying put with an outdated website will not only alienate your customers and lose you competitive advantage, but will also cost money and time in assigning resources to make sure it keeps working compatibly with new technologies, marketing tools and industry regulations.

I have Sitecore 7.5 or 8.0

The year 2014 was a year of big changes for Sitecore. They introduced a completely new experience by changing a lot of things at once. We gained the opportunity to work with new user interfaces, architecture and modules. In 2016, Sitecore initiated a cycle of changes resulting in them becoming a leader in the ECMS market.

Change can be good, of course, but the high-speed in which these changes were implemented has meant that many companies and developers have struggled to keep up with the pace.

You may have:

• a modern interface that lacks new Sitecore modules such as ‘Email Experience Manager’

• XDB, which is left unutilized because nobody has told you what to do with it

• issues in more modern browsers

You may not have:

• security updates

• a happy IT team

• the newest toys and gadgets from Sitecore

What will happen if you will stay with this version? Take another look above at what is happening to businesses with Sitecore 6.5 or older.

You don’t want to be in there position in a couple of years, do you?

I have Sitecore 8.1

Fantastic! Either you have a brand new solution or have updated your existing platform in the last few months. If you have just started working with Sitecore, you should read what we have to say below. With each new version of Sitecore 8.1 and Sitecore 8.2 that is released, the company provides its users with bug fixes, new features and business performance support modules such as ‘Sitecore Experience Accelerator’.

Whilst you can always ask Sitecore partners for assistance in learning about these new fixes and updates, it’s important to ensure you talk to a specialist in the newest version. You wouldn’t ask a CRT TV specialist for advice on your new curved flat screen HD TV, would you?

You may have:

• regular security updates

• the newest features and modules from Sitecore

• a happy development team

• a decision to make and time to make it

You may not have:

• a problem – for now

You have a brand new website with new tools and all you have to do is take care not to break it!

But…A few days ago Sitecore released version 8.2. Are you ready to be a leader? Many options, many solutions, one goalDepending on what version of Sitecore you currently have, a decision needs to be made as to which way forward is best for you and your business.

This decision should not be taken lightly, and requires support from people with a lot of knowledge and experience in working with Sitecore to help you make the right choice. Coders Center know all the paths, and we can help you to succeed.
